Gravure printing and Digital printing
We will hear digital printing and gravure printing when we customize plastic packaging,so what is gravure printing? And what is digital printing. What is the difference?
Gravure printing and digital printing are two different printing technologies.
Gravure Printing is a traditional printing method that uses a gravure cylinder to transfer ink onto the printing substrate. The gravure cylinder is a metal or plastic cylinder with recessed patterns, where the ink is filled and then transferred to the substrate through pressure. Gravure printing is suitable for large-scale commercial printing, such as magazines, newspapers, and packaging materials. Its characteristics include high printing speed, vibrant colors, rich image details, and good durability.
Digital Printing is a relatively new printing technology that transfers images directly onto the printing substrate in a digital format. Digital printing typically uses inkjet or laser printing technology. Compared to traditional printing methods, digital printing offers advantages in terms of speed, flexibility, and personalization. It can produce small print runs in a shorter time, making it suitable for personalized printing, low-volume printing, and on-demand printing needs. Digital printing also enables variable data printing, where each print can contain different content, such as personalized envelopes or mailings.
There are differences between gravure printing and digital printing in several aspects:
Print quality: Gravure printing generally offers higher print quality, especially in large-scale printing. It can achieve higher color saturation and image details compared to digital printing, which has relatively weaker performance in these aspects.
Cost and efficiency: Gravure printing is cost-effective and efficient for large-scale printing. Digital printing is cost-effective and efficient for small print runs or personalized printing.
Flexibility and personalization: Digital printing provides higher flexibility and personalization capabilities. It allows on-demand printing and variable data printing, while gravure printing requires the production and preparation of gravure cylinders, making it less suitable for personalized printing needs.
Application scope: Gravure printing is mainly used in large-scale commercial printing, such as magazines, newspapers, and packaging materials. Digital printing is suitable for small print runs, personalized printing, and on-demand printing needs, such as personalized stationery, business cards, and brochures.
